For Your Passover Pleasure: Charoset with Honey
The first Passover I attended was put together by one of my best friends, Debbie Unterman. After reciting the blessings, she showed us how to make a matzah sandwich with Charoset (sweet apple salad) and Maror (bitter herbs). We then followed Tradition and ate the sandwich, talking about how life is taking the bitter with the sweet. Eating Charoset with Honey is one of my favorite memories, and I’m including the web address for a Wikipedia piece on Charoset: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charoset.
Passover Charoset with Honey
Ingredients
- 6 cups peeled, cored and grated Granny Smith apples
- 2 lemons, juiced
- 1 cup roughly chopped walnuts
- 1 cup golden raisins
- 1/2 cup honey
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/4 cup kosher for Passover sweet red wine
Instructions
- In a large bowl combine all of the ingredients. Serve.
Notes
The longer you let the Charoset sit in the refrigerator, the better the flavor.
