Medicinal Thought to Increase Wellness
Turmeric and Honey Tea
Of course, we are not doctors and can neither diagnose nor prescribe medicine. However, all of the staff at Bee Wild are interested in holistic wellness and love to help our family and friends. We also love investigating various medicinal uses for honey and testing their effectiveness for ourselves. So, we do share our finds with our customers and readers but do caution you to make an appointment with your M.D., if you have a health challenge or questions about nutrition or supplements.
Is Turmeric A Good Choice
One example of how we contribute wellness information is a post we did earlier on using cinnamon and honey as part of a weight loss regime: http://beewild.buzz/honey-for-weight-loss/. Following this trend, we are taking a look at turmeric, a spice used in Ayurvedic wellness practices for thousands of years. See http://organicindia.mercola.com/herbal-supplements/turmeric.aspx.
The Recipe
Since I’m a big believer in eating specific foods for wellness, I looked for a way to include turmeric in my eating program. I found this recipe for turmeric and honey tea at http://101cookbooks.com. Although the author uses turmeric as an anti-inflammatory, Dr. Mercola also talks about turmeric as an immune system tonic.
Ingredients
- 1/3 cup raw, wild-crafted honey
- 2 1/2 teaspoons dried turmeric (You can buy dried organic turmeric root and use a spice blender or mortar and pestle to grind the turmeric into a powder.)
- 1 organic lemon
- Freshly ground organic black pepper
Instructions
- Make a paste with the honey and turmeric.
- Store in a canning jar with lid.
- Heat the best quality water you have.
- Remove the water from the heat before it boils.
- Put 1 tsp. of the turmeric honey paste in a cup.
- Pour the heated water over the paste, stirring to blend.
- Season with organic lemon juice and freshly ground organic black pepper.
