Powerful Native Medicinal –
Bee Balm Infused Honey
Since today’s blog post was focused on creating a bee garden and Bee Balm is one of my favorite flowering herbs, I thought it would be fun to share how to make a medicinal honey by infusing it with Bee Balm. Please note that Bee Balm is a member of the mint family, and like any other mint, it is safe to eat.
Of course, we need to let you know that we are not licensed physicians. So, we can’t diagnose or prescribe for what ails you. We can just share our research and stories, and let you make a choice. However, we would like to encourage you to go to your doctor, if you are truly ill, and at least get a baseline opinion of where your body is at the moment.
Finally, please note that we suggest you use our Wildflower Honey for this recipe. Since it’s allergy season and there may be benefits to eating Wildflower Honey, we think it is a good foundation for this infusion.
Why Bee Balm?
One of the ways I research posts for this section of our recipe blog is to Google the sentence “Is ___________________ healthy?” While I’ve been drinking oswego tea on and off for years, I was pleased to find so much information on Bee Balm. Here is a post from Annie’s Remedy for this wonderful herb. I also moved the note I made on the recipe:
Bee Balm infused honey is anti-bacterial and anti-fungal because of the high amounts of thymol in the plant. It can be used for body support when you have a sore throat or fever. It also has a taste slightly similar to oregano, so if you want a sweet, herbacious sauce for your ice cream, for example, this infusion would work well.
