with A Green Smoothie with Honey
With so many parties and gatherings and such good food to sample, if you are like us, you may feel over-stuffed during the holidays. What about substituting a meal of two with a delicious, healthy green smoothie with honey? Or, better still, why not substitute one meal every day with a green smoothie? When you give your body good nutrition, it make a difference. You may sleep better, have clearer skin and better digestion, feel more energetic. You also might find yourself eating more selectively when your body has some of the vitamins and minerals it needs.
Why Smoothies?
The bioavailability of nutrients is an important factor in health building. It’s not just eating high quality food that’s important. It’s how well you digest that food so that the nutrients are actually available to your body. As a person with a surgically compromised digestive system, I’ve had to learn a lot about smoothies and pre-digested food (such as fermented vegetables) in order to give my digestion the boost it needs to absorb nutrients. The Recipe
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups of sliced frozen fruit (seasonal, local fruit is preferred)
- 2 big handfuls of greens (local, seasonal spinach, kale, chard, etc.)
- 1/4 cup raw oats (You can soak these overnight in the water, if you like.)
- 1 tbsp Bee Wild raw honey (We like Wildflower Honey for this recipe.)
- 1 cup pure water
Instructions
- Put frozen fruit, raw oats, honey, and water in your blender.
- Starting out on a low speed, never blending more than 30 seconds at a time, blend until you have a smooth liquid.
- Add a little of the greens at a time, continuing to blend, until all the greens are incorporated into the smoothie.
- Drink the smoothie within 15 minutes so that the enzymatic quality of the veggies isn't lost.
Notes
