Honey Sesame Slow Cooker Chicken
In our recent More Honey Tips post, we mentioned that honey can be used to balance heat, sour, bitter, as well as adding, sweet flavors, in a recipe. This honey sesame slow cooker chicken recipe is an example of the balance of flavors that cooking with honey creates.
Are Sesame Seeds Healthy?
This is QueenBee. I totally was blown away when I started researching the wellness potential for sesame seeds. I found articles with over 20 health benefits for this small, tasty seed. I’m including a link to an article by Berkeley Wellness which shares some of these benefits.
The Recipe
Honey Sesame Slow Cooker Chicken
Ingredients
- 2 lb. boneless skinless chicken breast diced
- 2 T. cornstarch
- 1 large onion halved & sliced
- 2 cloves garlic minced
- 1/3 cup Bee Wild honey (I'd use Gallberry or Orange Blossom, for their robust flavor.)
- 3 T. low sodium soy sauce
- 1 T. sesame oil
- 1 t. red pepper flakes (optional)
- 2 T. sesame seeds
- 1/4 cup green onions sliced on the diagonal
Instructions
- Stir chicken and cornstarch together in a slow cooker until chicken is completely coated. Add onion and garlic.
- Whisk honey, soy sauce, sesame oil, and red pepper flakes together in a small bowl. Pour over the chicken and onions.
- Cook for 4 hours on high or 8 hours on low.
- Sprinkle with sesame seeds & green onions. Serve hot with jasmine rice, brown rice, or cauliflower rice.
Notes
I use Seeds of Change Rice/Grain/Quinoa often. I would feel really comfortable with their Brown Rice/Quinoa blend with this dish.
