Strawberry Basil Smash
with Honey Simple Syrup
We are at the end of strawberry season, so there are great deals for purchasing strawberries. For example, Whole Foods sold a container of strawberries which normally cost $5+ per container for $2.50 last week. When you purchase produce at the end of the season, you can often get discounts on fruits and vegetables which are high quality, if you are careful. You can even purchase a larger amount than usual and make this delicious adult beverage, Strawberry Basil Smash with Honey Simple Syrup.
Is Basil Healthy?
Basil is a member of the mint family and is heavily used in Mediterranean cooking. But, did you know that basil originally was cultivated in Asia for its medicinal properties? Here are some of its beneficial qualities. Basis is:
- an anti-inflammatory.
- a source of basic nutrients, like magnesium and vitamin k.
- a major component for essential oils that are used for destressing.

The Recipe
Ingredients
- 5 Ripe Strawberries (leafy part removed)
- 3-5 Fresh Basil Leaves
- 1 Medium Lemon, Juiced
- 1 oz (or 1 shot) Honey Simple Syrup (See notes for instructions.)
- 1 and 1/2 oz (or 1 and 1/2 shots) Vodka
- Splash Club Soda
Instructions
- In a cocktail shaker, muddle strawberries and basil leaves.
- Add lemon juice, honey simple syrup, and vodka along with 6 ice cubes.
- Shake vigorously for 30 seconds.
- Fill a fancy glass with crushed ice and strain cocktail into glass.
- Add a splash of club soda.
- Garnish with a fresh strawberry and basil leaves. Enjoy!
Notes
How to Make Honey Simple Syrup:
Combine 1 cup water and 1 cup Bee Wild honey in a small saucepan. Bring to a boil over medium-high, stirring constantly until honey dissolves. Remove from heat, and cool to room temperature, about 30 minutes. Store in an airtight container in refrigerator up to 2 weeks.
